August 2025

Hello Kerouacians!

We know it’s the height of hurricane season, but there’s no reason to wait it out alone.  Come out to one of our cool events this weekend, and we’ll speculate about the weather together, then recite poems and tell stories to our heart’s content.  Obviously, both events will be held at the Jack Kerouac House of St Petersburg at 5169 10th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.

August’s Storytelling @ the Kerouac House will be on Saturday 08/23 from 7-9pm (doors 6:30). Ross Tarr will be the feature storytelling and Wanda Stuart will be our opener. As usual, Victoria Dym will emcee and tell. A storytelling open mic will follow the intermission.
Ross Tarr is the Executive Director and Storyteller at Suncoast Storytellers, Inc, Florida non-profit. Ross is delighted to celebrate Jack Kerouac in story and will tell about his early years, when Jack was a lad known for his piety and athletic ability, not for the written word.
To tell at the open mic (5-7 minutes), sign up at the event with Victoria Dym. Refreshments and snacks will be served at intermission; wine and beer available at the cash bar. Come to listen and/or tell! There will be limited seating. Tickets $10. For more info and tix, follow the links below:

Next, come join us this Sunday 08/24 at 3pm for a finger snapping cool afternoon of Poetry and Coffee at the Kerouac House. We are thrilled to have the incredible Ben Leslie working his magic words with us. Get ready to be inspired and enjoy some great company in a cozy, historical setting. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the magic of words and caffeine as we continue Jack's legacy. We will serve coffee and one of Chef Shelley's baked delights. What can be better than that?

Ben Leslie is a local writer, haiku poet, puppeteer, storyteller, improvisational actor, exclamation purveyor and oddocorrect re-speller. After graduating from Northeastern University in Boston, owned and operated two fitness facilities in Florida for 17 years. Current member of performance troupe, Ed's Shed. Resides in Oldsmar with his miniature poodle, Cinnamon.

As usual, there will be an open-mic poetry reading featuring some of Tampa Bay’s best and emerging poets. You can sign up to recite with our resident poet and emcee Larry Jaffe when you get to Jack’s house.  Tickets are limited and they are $10 each.  For more info and tix go to:
