We want to give you a heads up about some events happening at the Kerouac House of St. Petersburg in the near future.
We are super excited about the performers coming to the Kerouac House for our February’s Songwriter Club on Sat 02/08 from 7-10pm, Freedy Johnson and Geri X.
Internationally recognized artist Freedy Johnston is a singer-songwriter originally from Kinsley, Kansas. A town 1,561 miles from both New York and San Francisco. He moved to New York in the 1980's and worked as an office temp for a few years before landing a deal with Bar None Records in Hoboken. His second record for them was his breakthrough album, 1992's Can You Fly. He then signed to Elektra Records and in 1994 worked with producer Butch Vig on his biggest record, This Perfect World, which featured the radio hit “Bad Reputation”, and earned him Rolling Stone's Songwriter of the Year award for 1994. His songs were featured in the movies “Kingpin”, “Kicking and Screaming” and “Heavy”.
He currently lives in Joshua Tree, California.
Opening for Freedy is Geri X. Bulgarian-born Geri X is a composer, a musician and a singer hard to put a label on. Fans and critics spotted it from the moment she broke onto the Tampa Bay music scene: Geri is an artist with a singular sound you have not heard before.
What started with a classical training in piano, guitar and voice, evolving out of a broad and eclectic blend of influences, has become wonderfully her own.
