Greetings Fellow Kerouacians!
There are a lot of cool events coming up at the Jack Kerouac House of St. Petersburg. Music! Poetry! Books! We hope you can join us for at least one of these events.
Also, at the end of this email, there is a call for volunteers to help run the events. As one would expect, volunteers do not have to buy tickets to attend.
All events, of course, are at the Jack Kerouac House: 5169 10th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.
This month’s Coffee and Poetry at Jack’s House is on Sunday 02/23 from 3-6pm, and it features acclaimed local poet Victoria Dym. Victoria is a Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Clown College graduate with a Humility degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master of Fine Arts, Creative Writing-Poetry from Carlow University. Her two poetry chapbooks, Class Clown, and When the Walls Cave In were published by Finishing Line Press in 2015 and 2018. Victoria’s chapbook, Spontaneous, was selected by Northwest Poet Laureate Katherine Nelson-Born as the winner of the 2021 Poem-A-Day Chapbook Challenge Contest, won a cash prize, and subsequently was published by the West Florida Literary Federation in 2022. Ms. Dym's full-length manuscript, The Hatchet Sun, was published by Finishing Line Press in August 2023. She is working on book number five, Shaving the Yak.
As always, this event focuses on the work of the featured poet followed by an open mic where some of Tampa Bay’s best poets will read their work. There will be plenty of bonhomie as well as tasty baked goods provided by Chef Shelley. The March edition of the Songwriter Club features Alice Wallace and Kristopher James on Saturday 3/1, doors at 6 pm show starts at 7. Alice Wallace is a rising star in Nashville and is in the middle of touring the USA playing her newest album Here I Am. If you are not already familiar with her work, check it out here: https://www.alicewallacemusic.com
Kristopher James takes his audience on an emotional journey through his Americana-Soul sound. Creative Loafing has said James “is a kindred musical spirit to artists like Amos Lee, Kristopher James graduated from the realm of 'blue-eyed' anything. His vocals are perfectly reigned in and his gift for melody is unrivaled in the Bay area. Singer-songwriter Kristopher is perhaps the most interesting local musician on the scene.”
There will only be 50 tickets available and they will sell out quickly, so get yours today here:

Finally, we are excited to announce our quarterly collaboration with local literary organization Wordier Than Thou, The Underground Book Fair on Saturday, 03/08 from 1 – 6 pm. Local booksellers, vinyl dealers, and authors will spend the afternoon sharing their words and wares with the public. There will be refreshments, tours of the Kerouac House, and hobnobbing with like-minded people. We are asking for a $5 donation at the door.
