September 2025

Hello Kerouacians!
Fall is falling and Autumn will be awesome at the Kerouac House.  In another month our house concert series, The Songwriters Club, will reboot, we’ll host our quarterly boost for local booksellers and authors, The Underground Book Fair, and announce other fun events we’re brewing up for Halloween and beyond.  Closer at hand, check out the details below for this month’s poetry reading and storytelling events, both of which will be held at the Jack Kerouac House of St Petersburg at 5169 10th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.

First, September’s Storytelling @ the Kerouac House will be on Saturday 09/27 from 7-9pm (doors 6:30) and will feature storyteller Katie Green who will share her story, "Jesse and the Sweetful Circus." Our own in-house storyteller extraordinaire Victoria Dym will emcee and tell.
Katie Green has been telling stories and facilitating workshops for over thirty years. She is also a political activist, non-violence trainer, and facilitator for the Alternatives to Violence Project. Katie’s work is recognized by the Florida Storytelling Association, NorthEast Storytellers, and the National Storytelling Network. She believes that storytelling can, and does, change the world.  katiegreenstories@gmail.com
To tell at the open mic (5-7 minutes), sign up at the event with Victoria. Refreshments and snacks will be served at intermission; wine and beer available at the cash bar. Come to listen and/or tell! There will be limited seating. Tickets are $10; donations go directly to the Jack Kerouac House.

Next, we’re hosting a special edition of our regular poetry reading Coffee and Poetry at Jack’s this month. Sometimes the best conversations happen across time, and that's exactly what we're creating on September 28th at 3-6pm at the Jack Kerouac House. Instead of featuring a single poet this month, we're inviting Jack himself to be our featured artist through your voices.
We're asking each participant to bring a favorite Kerouac poem to read aloud in his own house, plus an original piece written in response to his work - whether it's addressed to Jack directly, inspired by his themes, or sparked by his revolutionary spirit.
Picture this: Jack's words flowing through the afternoon, followed immediately by contemporary responses they've inspired. His "On the Road" energy meeting your creative journey. His spontaneous prose connecting with your current voice. The afternoon becomes a true conversation across generations, with Jack's presence alive through both his original work and the new poetry he continues to inspire.
Coffee, poetry, and the kind of creative community Jack himself would have loved. September 28, 3-6 PM at the Jack Kerouac House. And don't forget special pastries to go with the coffee and provided by Chef Shelley!
You can sign up to recite with our resident poet and emcee Larry Jaffe when you get to Jack’s house.  Tickets are limited and they are $10 each.  For more info and tix go to:
